São Paulo – Retail trade in the metropolitan region of São Paulo (SE Brazil) recorded sales 6.1% greater in March this year than in the same month of 2007, according to the Conjunctural Survey of Retail (PCCV), conducted by the Federation of Commerce of the State of São Paulo (Fecomercio). During the first quarter, retail trade posted accumulated growth of 7.3%.
The best performance was that of the clothing, textiles and shoes sector (18.1%), whereas the greatest reduction was posted by auto parts and accessory stores, in which sales decreased 30.4%. The information were supplied by the press office at Fecomercio.
The leading contributing factors to the increase are expanding credit and the recovery of employment and income rates in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, variables that have a decisive impact on consumer confidence, making them more prone to buying.
