São Paulo – The Federation of Commerce of Goods and Services of Rio Grande do Sul (Fecomércio-RS) is interested in promoting a trade mission to the Arab world in the near future. The idea was presented on Thursday (2) by the vice president at the organisation, Arno Gleisner, during a seminar on business opportunities between Brazil and the Arab countries, in state capital Porto Alegre.
According to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Michel Alaby, who gave the talk about markets in the region and about how to negotiate with businessmen there, both organisations should soon discuss the countries to be visited and what sectors may be represented.
Alaby said that approximately 60 people were present, mainly in the sectors of furniture and food, as well as importers of chemical, petrochemical and food products.
In the beginning, according to him, it would be ideal to link the mission to some fair in the region, like Gulfood, in the food sector, Index, in the furniture sector, or Big 5 Show, in the building sector. All take place yearly in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, and generally have strong Brazilian participation.
Apart from Alaby and Gleisner, the seminar also included ambassador Cláudio Lyra, the Brazilian Foreign Office representative in Rio Grande do Sul, and Sérgio Kirsch, from the Brazilian Association of Port Terminals (ABTP). Kirsch, according to information disclosed by the Fecomércio News Agency, spoke about the ports and airports of the Arab world.
