Rio de Janeiro – Over 80,000 tourists traveling on 14 ships will land on Píer Mauá in the Christmas week to attend the New Year’s Eve party in Rio de Janeiro. Only in the 31st, 20,000 tourists are expected. Once more, the turn of the year will see fireworks in Copacabana in the South Zone of Rio. The information was given to Agência Brasil by Píer Mauá operations manager Alexandre Gomes.
In the cruising season that started last October and runs until April 2020, 112 docking of 37 different ships are expected. The 2019-20 season started on October 20 with the arrival of the World Explorer, the first cruise ship built in Portugal.
Gomes said that this is a growth season because “foreign shipowners turn their gaze to the Brazilian coast as a destination spot. Therefore, we see a very significant increase,” in the number of tourists arriving at the city. Píer Mauá operations manager report that this is important since it introduces BRL 500 million (USD 122 million) in Rio’s economy just in this six-month season.
