Rio de Janeiro – According to a survey made public this week by Rio de Janeiro Municipality Hotel Association (Hotéis Rio), 78% of rooms are taken for week one of Rock in Rio, and 84% for week two. Most bookings are from domestic tourists, especially from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Bahia. The bulk of foreign bookers hail from the USA, Argentina and France.
The survey also shows that occupancy will exceed that of the last Rock in Rio, in 2017. The number of rooms booked for week one is up 4%. The strongest demand is for the Ipanema and Leblon neighborhoods. For week two, bookings are up 2.5% from 2017, predominantly in Flamengo, Botafogo, Barra da Tijuca, São Conrado, Ipanema and Leblon.
Rock in Rio will run from September 27 to 29 and October 3 to 6 this year. Its 250 concerts will include the Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers, P!nk, Black Eyed Peas, Iron Maiden, and Scorpions. Tickets for each day go for BRL 525. Half-price tickets are available to legally entitled demographics including students and the elderly. Some days are already sold out.
The festival will take place at Cidade do Rock (pictured), within the Olympic Park in Jacarepaguá, in west side Rio. Organizers expect 100,000 people to attend each day, coming out to 700,000 for the whole event. The City Hall expects to see BRL 1.7 billion in revenue, up from BRL 1.4 billion during the 2017 edition.
