São Paulo – Royal Air Maroc will make available for purchase starting Wednesday (12) tickets for the direct Casablanca-São Paulo flight to restart December 7 after four years. The route will be relaunched with three weekly flights.
According to information released by the airline on Friday (7), the relaunch meets a growing demand from businesspeople, tourists, and “African diasporas”.
“We are pleased to resume the direct Casablanca-São Paulo air route, which was suspended due to the health crisis. This is part of our development plan and will strengthen our long-haul network, marking our return to Latin America,” Royal Air Maroc Chairman and CEO Hamid Addou was quoted as saying. He added that the route will meet the expectations of European tourists wishing to plan combined trips in Africa and Latin America.
Royal Air Maroc said the reopening of the route connects the economic and financial capitals of both countries. It adds that the relaunch is also in line with major projects in Morocco, notably the 2030 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, which first-stage games taking place in South America.
“Brazilian football fans can easily and comfortably travel with Royal Air Maroc between São Paulo and the three World Cup host countries via the airline’s hub in Casablanca,” the statement went on.
Royal Air Maroc flied to Brazil before
Royal Air Maroc flied to Brazil in two occasions – first between Casablanca and Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport from the ’70s to early ’90s, then it started flying to São Paulo from 2013 until the pandemic, when the route was suspended.
Nonstop flights from Africa do Brazil currently take off from South Africa, Angola, and Ethiopia. From Arab countries, there are flights from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Doha, Qatar, to São Paulo. Emirates operates a Dubai-Buenos Aires flight with a stop in Rio de Janeiro.
Starting December, the flights will be operated by Boeing 787. Departures from Casablanca will be on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 4:40 pm (local time), arriving in São Paulo at 10:20 pm (local time). Return flights will depart São Paulo on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 00:20 am (local time), landing in Casablanca at 1:15 pm. Tickets will be available for purchase on the airline’s website and travel agencies.
