São Paulo – Saudi Arabia was the country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with the highest number of millionaires in 2022 in a report by Credit Suisse. The Global Wealth Report takes into account wealth in dollars, according to the Saudi news website Arab News.
The survey indicated Saudi Arabia had 354,000 millionaires in 2022, a number that grew 8% compared to 2021, when there were 325,000. The increase shows the growing economic strength of the Arab country, which is emerging as a relevant player in the global wealth framework.
Topping the list were the United States and China, with 22.7 million and 6.2 million millionaires, respectively. The United States grew 5.5% in millionaires compared to 21.4 million in the previous year. Meanwhile, China recorded growth of 8%, compared to 5.7 million in 2021.
There was a decrease in the global number of millionaires in 2022 by 3.5 million people. In total, the world had at the end of last year 59.4 million inhabitants with a wealth of USD 1 million or more. Despite the drop, the report predicts growth in the coming years, with the number of global millionaires surpassing 85 million people in 2027, an increase of 26 million.
