Rio de Janeiro – The volume of the service sector ended 2018 with a 0.1% drop. This was the fourth year in a row of retraction in the segment, which accumulates a 11.1% loss in the period, according to data from the Monthly Survey of Services (PMS, acronym in Portuguese) released this Wednesday (14) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE, acronym in Portuguese). The value refers to the nominal revenue after discounting the inflation effect.
However, the nominal revenue of the segment (which takes the inflation into account) grew by 2.7% in 2018.
The drop in volume was driven mainly by the professional administrative and complementary services (-1.9%), which had a negative result influenced by the retraction in revenue from the activity segments of factoring and file information activities, electronic payment solutions, engineering services, surveillance and private security.
