Rio de Janeiro – Services sector activity was up 1.2% in August from July in Brazil, after having gone down by 2% in July from June. The numbers are from a monthly services survey (Pesquisa Mensal de Serviços – PMS) made public this Tuesday (16) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The sector saw 1.6% growth year-on-year in August, but activity declined by 0.5% year-to-date through August and 0.6% in the 12 months through August. All numbers concern gross revenue.
The pickup in August was driven by transportation, auxiliary transportation services and postal services, which saw activity go up 3.2%. Professional, administrative and complementary services were up 2.2%, and activity in ‘other services’ increased by 1%.
