São Paulo – Brazilian truckers’ strike, which has reached its fourth day, has been impacting Brazilian exports of many products, among them beef and poultry, which the country exports to the Arab countries.
A statement on the losses regarding meat foreign sales was released by the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (ABIEC) and the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), reporting that 120 plants from members of the associations were shut down due to the strike and that the situation is expected to last until Friday (25).
According to the associations, the roadblocks prevent access for the necessary inputs for production and interrupt the supply chain. Cargo has not been reaching the ports for exports. Regarding poultry and pork, nearly 25,000 tons haven’t been shipped. Regarding beef, exports declined by nearly 1,200 containers per day.
ABPA negotiated with the truckers’ leadership the clearance of trucks being blocked in Brazilian roads with live animal cargo, but a statement released by the association this Wednesday (24) morning reported that the clearance hadn’t taken place yet.
The truckers are demanding a tax cuts on the price of diesel, such as PIS/Cofins and ICMS, and the end of road toll fees in private roads for unloaded trucks.
