São Paulo – Sugar exports from Brazil more than doubled in October, and sugar was the most shipped item from Brazil to Arab countries. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply reported that sugar exports fetched USD 1.2 billion last month, up 121% from USD 544 million in October 2019.
China was the number one importing country. It took in 26% of total exports from Brazil, at USD 311.7 million. Other major importers included India, up 34% to USD 107.8 million, Bangladesh, up 94% to USD 85 million, and the United States, up 202% to USD 62 million.
Arab countries imported USD 294 million worth of sugar from Brazil last month, as per numbers compiled by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), up 45.8% from a year ago. imports by Arab countries came out to 1 million tons, up 45%. Total exports from Brazil to the world amounted to 4.2 million tons in October, the highest amount on record.
