São Paulo – The House of Wisdom, in Baghdad, will be the subject of a lecture this Saturday, November 27, at 4:00 pm BRT, at Esporte Clube Sírio, in the capital city of São Paulo, Brazil. The lecture “The House of Wisdom: Baghdad, a global lighthouse of knowledge in the Middle Ages” will be given by Professor Ayman Esmandar (pictured above), Ph.D. in History of Art. Admission is free.
Ayman Esmandar is a Syrian who has been living in Brazil since 2013. Here, he revalidated his diploma. Before moving to the country, the professor taught in the History of Art and Ancient History graduation course at the University of Damascus.
Also known as the House of Knowledge, the library and translation center was located in Baghdad, Iraq’s capital city. It was considered the most important intellectual center during the Golden Age of Islam.
The event is organized by the Arab Culture Center of Esporte Clube Sírio. The institution, founded in 1917, also works to support the preservation and dissemination of Arab culture, traditions, customs, and hospitality in Brazil.
