In his opening speech at the United Nations General Assembly, the Brazilian president pledged to achieve zero deforestation in the Amazon by 2030, called for an end to armed conflicts, and raised concerns about the growing issue of global hunger.

The Brazilian institution established 15 years ago works for conservating the forest, reducing poverty and including the Amazonian people in the region’s development. Other two organizations are finalists in the Climate Action category. The winner will be announced at the COP28 in Dubai.

Addressing COP27, the president-elect said Brazil wants to cooperate once again with the poorest countries, with investments and technology transfers, and fight hunger in the world. He emphasized that the efforts to fight climate change will have the highest profile in his next administration.
