Despite Brazil recording an avian influenza outbreak earlier this year, 2025 is expected to close with an increase in chicken meat exports. The president of ABPA said the Middle East showed confidence in the country during this period.

Sales to the Arab country rose 7.9% in September compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 13,500 tons, according to the report released by ABPA.

At a meeting on Sunday, the committee of Kuwait’s Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) recommended lifting the ban on imports of Brazilian chicken meat.
With Jordan removing restrictions on the entry of Brazilian chicken into its market on Tuesday (15), there are now eight Arab countries with no restrictions on imports. The bans had been imposed due to an avian flu outbreak.
The country has detected for the first time a highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak in a commercial poultry farm. The government has implemented measures to contain the issue, including the disposal of birds and eggs from the facility and the suspension of chicken exports from Rio Grande do Sul, where the case was reported.
Saudi Arabia was the second-largest destination of Brazilian chicken meat in March. Other Arab countries among the top buyers in the month were the UAE and Iraq, but their purchases declined.
Exports grew 9.4% compared to the same period in 2024, marking the best result for the month, according to chicken lobby ABPA. China, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia were the top three importers.
The three Arab leading buyers of poultry from Brazil stepped up their imports in May, ABPA says. The UAE are the second leading importer, followed by Saudi Arabia in third, and Iraq in sixth.
Volume of shipments increased year on year, meatpacker lobby said. Both volume and revenue decreased year to date. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are the top Arab destinations.
Total shipments were higher this year compared to 2022. According to the sector lobby, the most significant increases in purchases were from China, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, and Mexico.
The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein released a note regretting Japan’s decision to suspend purchases of poultry from the state of Espírito Santo, where avian influenza was detected in a backyard plant. ABPA informed Brazilian industrial poultry plants remain free of any cases of the disease.
Saudi Arabia stood out as one of the leading destinations for Brazilian poultry exports from January to May, with purchases of 148,100 tonnes.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce sent a note to Arab embassies in Brazil with clarifications on the cases of avian influenza identified in wild birds in the country. Brazil remains free of the disease.
