The Arab country has brought seven companies of pastries, biscuits, dates, herbs and spices to the APAS Show in São Paulo. The opening was attended by Jordanian senator Issa Murad, the Jordanian ambassador to Brasília, Maen Masadeh, and the Jordanian honorary consul in São Paulo, Mustapha Abdouni.

Egyptian international sales of dates reached USD 40 million last year, and the country’s Food Industry Export Council aims to reach USD 100 million by the end of 2024. The South American market is one of the focuses.

Despite being the world’s largest date producer, Egypt accounts for only 4% of the product’s global trade. But the country has pursued a strategy to produce more internationally demanded cultivars.

The Brazilian market increased its imports of dates in the last years. The fruit is sought after by the fitness niche but is still poorly known among consumers in general. In 2020, imports decreased due to the pandemic.
