São Paulo – With over 100 years in existence, Santanense has been exporting fabrics, mainly serge, since the 1980s. Among the main destinations for the producer are the countries of Latin America, Europe and South Africa. Now the company is getting ready to intensify its internationalisation process, focussing on the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.
"The company currently maintains slight concrete trade relations with the Arab countries, but there is very great interest in incrementing the business with the region, as we believe they are markets with great purchase potential and that have excellent relations with Brazil," stated Rogério Gonçalves, marketing director at Santanense. "Closer trade ties will certainly be an excellent business opportunity and positive for both sides," added the director.
In Gonçalves’ evaluation, trade visits, fairs and personal contact is fundamental for consolidation of Santanense business on the foreign market. The company usually participates in important fairs in the sector like Colombiatex, in Colombia, Première Vision, in France, Emitex, in Argentina, and Fenin and Fenatec, in Brazil.
According to the director, the company always aims to be attuned to the global tendencies, making available a broad scope of products, both in the sports wear and in the work wear sectors. "This year the company plans to focus on its client portfolio and to maintain its export volume," he said. The company currently exports between 10% and 15% of production.
Santanense was established in 1891 in the city of Santana do Rio Acima, currently Itaúna, in the state of Minas Gerais. The organisation has around 1,300 employees, annual production of 60 million metres of fabric and annual revenues of approximately 350 million Brazilian reals (US$ 155.5 million).
