São Paulo – Camburi beach, in the city of São Sebastião, is one of the most pleasant and charming routes of the coast of São Paulo. Some 160 kilometres away from São Paulo, the site has nothing to do with urban beaches, full of buildings and shops on all sides. Camburi is very low as there are no buildings there. The streets are practically all sandy and Atlantic Forrest vegetation is all around.
There are small and charming inns, beautiful and elegant homes and, here and there, restaurants with open areas, among the alleys of Camburi. The sand of the beach is among the clearest of the São Paulo and the waves in that stretch are renowned for their height and regularity, which attracts many surfers all year round. In fact, the beach started being visited and gained popularity mainly after it was discovered by surfers.
Yes, there are surfers in Camburi, with surf championships all year long and masses of youths visiting the site, as well as nightlife that is appropriate for them, like Galeão, a night club famous for its beautiful people, including those from the neighbouring cities. There are also many families that, with kids and grandparents, enjoy the beaches and make the place their refuge on weekends, sunny days and even in winter.
The area surrounding Camburi, in fact, is also an attraction. Maresias, one of the liveliest beaches sought by the youth, is right beside it. Also neighbouring is Camburizinho, a small beach with native characteristics, with its 300 metres in length. Both are divided by a small stone island and a bridge, under which Camburi River flows into the local ocean. In the surrounding areas, it is also possible to find tracks into the Atlantic Forest, with its waterfalls in which you can bathe in fresh water.
There are several options for you to stay at, from higher-end ones, in charming hotels and inns, and others for pockets that are not so deep. At the Beach Hotel Cambury, which is near the bridge, there are leisure options like sauna, pool, games room, playground, all close to the beach. A five-day package (for January 2012) in a standard room is around R$ 2,600 (US$ 1,400) per couple. But there is also the Camburi Hostel, three kilometres away from the beach, a nice structure amidst greenery, with a pool, private and collective rooms and cheap prices.
