São Paulo – The image of the Moroccan king, Mohammed 6th, is everywhere. The country’s public buildings, such as stores, schools and restaurants, are compelled to place his photograph at a place visible to all of those who enter the premises.
Despite the fact that there is a prime minister, the king is the central figure in the Moroccan government, but he is the only one adored by the people. His wife does not bear the title of queen, but the history of princess Salma seems as though it was taken from a book.
Born into a poor family, Salma was raised by her grandmother in a neighbourhood in the outskirts of Rabat. She was always an excellent student, regarded as intelligent above the average.
She managed to get herself through college. After graduation, the best students, such as the princess-to-be, would earn a job in a public company, and would also receive their diplomas from the hands of the then-prince Mohammed, who would be the special guest at the event.
When he saw Salma, Mohammed decided that he wanted her for his wife, but was forbidden to wed her by his father, king Hassan 2nd, who did not admit his son to marry a girl who was not noble. Mohammed had to wait, but got what he wanted. After the passing of his father, as soon as he ascended to the throne in 1999, he married Salma and made her the princess of his kingdom, with nearly 35 million subjects.
