São Paulo – The São Paulo International Airport, in the Guarulhos municipality, received 2.872 million passengers in March, up 11% from 2.568 million in March 2012. According to information released by the airport this Friday (26th), 8.46 million passengers boarded or alighted flights in Guarulhos in quarter one this year, up 5% from quarter one 2012.
In March 2013, 23,700 landings and takeoffs took place at the airport, up 0.5% from March 2012. Year-to-date through March, however, landings and takeoffs amounted to 66,800, down 5% from 70,000 in quarter one 2012.
According to the airport administration, quarter-one landings and takeoffs were down from last year because some airlines reduced the number of flights offered in order to increase aircraft occupancy rates. Of the 66,800 landings and takeoffs at the airport this year, 19,400 were international flights and 47,400 were domestic.
