São Paulo – The Children of the Ghetto trilogy by Lebanese author Elias Khoury has been translated from Arabic into Portuguese for the first time. The first title of the trilogy, My Name is Adam, contains an extensive glossary of terms and references at the end of the book. The cover and first page photographs were taken by Laura Di Pietro, editor-in-chief of Tabla. The book is translated by Safa Jubran, and graphic design is by Marcelo Pereira.
My Name is Adam is a novel that explores the silencing of Palestinian trauma. It tells the story of Adam, an intriguing falafel vendor whose memories recount the history of Nakba and the Palestinian people. Elias Khoury explores a constellation linking historical trauma, silenced memory, and narrative form.
