A Brazil-based publishing house focused on publishing books by authors from the Middle East and North Africa has launched a book club for Arab literature lovers. The first meeting takes place on August 18 about the novel The Night Mail by Hoda Barakat.

Written by Lebanese author Amin Maalouf, the book revolves around a lost manuscript by the poet Omar Khayyám and takes the reader through the Silk Road across centuries and continents. Publishing house Tabla is launching it in Brazilian Portuguese featuring translation by Marília Scalzo.

The I Symposium on Women and Arab Literature will occur from November 16 to 18. The event is organized by the International Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the Federal University of Sergipe, partnering with the Arab Women’s Film Festival and Editora Tabla publishing house.
