São Paulo – Tunisia should promote from November 28th to 30th, in Tunis, a Business and Technology Convention aimed at fostering the expansion of industry and expanding the country’s international insertion after the Arab Spring, which, last year, put an end to the regime of dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali that had run the country for over 20 years.
The idea is to bring together Tunisian and foreign businessmen to discuss business opportunities, investment and partnerships that may result in the transfer of new technologies and in the production of greater value-added products in the country.
According to information disclosed by the organizers of the event, the focus will be on the mechanical, electric, electronic, plastic, textile, pharmaceutical and food industries and in the area of information and communications technology.
The meeting is an initiative of the Agency for Industrial Promotion, an organisation connected to the Tunisian government that plans to reduce the uncertain environment due to the popular protests that took place in 2011 and resulted in the change of regime.
One of the targets of the country is the expansion of the country’s industry in the Euro-Mediterranean economic bloc, mainly through the transfer of technology, innovation and integration of the productive chains.
Tunisia also wants to provide greater visibility to its competitiveness as a regional export platform, to provide incentives to local entrepreneurship and to reduce internal inequality through reduction of the existing opportunities in several parts of the country’s territory.
In terms of investment, the Tunisians plan to show that they still provide an advantageous environment for investors from Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Arab world.
The organizers inform that Tunisian industry brings together 5,750 companies, with a minimum of 10 workers each, of which 2,764 are exporters. In total, the sector employs over 520,000 people.
According to the organizers, apart from a conference on industrial development and workshops on technology, innovation, regional development and small and medium companies, around 300 Tunisian factories and service providers are going to show their products at a fair during the meetings.
The convention should also include teaching and research institutions, fostering agencies, financial institutions, booths by countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea, as well as business roundtables.
The organizers hope to receive 15,000 visitors, of which 1,000 foreign, 500 exhibitors and 1,000 participants in business roundtables.
