São Paulo – Chemlali-type olive oil by Olivko, of Tunisia, was named best extra-virgin olive oil the world, out of 900 varieties by 300 brands in the New York World Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC). The award ceremony took place May 10 in the USA.
Olive oil producers from 26 countries joined the contest, including thirty from Tunisia. The NYIOOC is one of the highest-quality olive oil competitions in the planet.
Olivko also brought home gold medals in the Chetoui and Blend categories. There are over 100 olive tree varieties in Tunisia. The Chemlali strain is mostly available in the Central and Southern portions of the North AFrican country.
Apart from Olivko’s three wins, seven gold medals and seven silver ones went to 14 Tunisian olive oil varieties, by the brands A&S, Parcelle 26 Sélections, Rahma, Parcelle 26 Second Harvest, Safir, Salim, Safir Selection, Carthage Héritage, Oleiva Premium, Kesra and Oleastra.
