Tunis – Tunisia’s fruit exporting revenues nearly doubled from January 2 to May 2: it was a 97% climb, according to news outlet Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP), mentioning data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries. Foreign sales generated USD 3.1 billion to the country, against USD 1.57 billion in the same period of 2017.
In volume, the exports of Tunisian fruits jumped from 487,700 tons to 1.342 million tons, a surge of 180%. According to TAP, the resume of purchases by Libya, which accounted for nearly 40% of exports, together of an increase in sales to Italy – up 160% – and Qatar (1,070%), as well as the entrance into new markets, such as Oman and Belgium, were some of the factors listed by the ministry for the period’s good performance.
Tunisia exports mainly peaches, raspberry and prickly pear.
