São Paulo – Paintings by Brazilian contemporary artists will be on show through October 19 at The Cube, a venue within the Central Park Towers complex in the financial district of Dubai, UAE. The show opened last Monday (23), featuring works ranging from Realism to Expressionism. Together, the pieces reflect the exuberance of Brazil and its people.
The pictures are by Bia Ferrari, Anne Wegge, Claudia Costa, Marina Maia, Yara Mattos, Yara Rangel, Hermano Ferro, Julio Cets, Paula Paes Leme, Carla Cavendish, Edith Rocha and Cristina Pires Furtado. Bia Ferrari’s soft-colored work depicts imperial-era Brazil, its architecture, its people and natural diversity. Anne Wee’s dynamic, vibrant art is rooted in Realism, and Yara Mattos’ work is replete with family memories and the love of nature.
Marina Maia makes a point of exalting the action of time on objects, evincing a passion for the past. Hermano Ferro relies on acrylic paint and collages, Júlio Cets creates loose, abstract pictures in lively colors, and Cristina Pires Furtado draws on the colors of nature, and occasionally on a Cubist influence. The approaches are various.

“Most of the artworks convey the colors of Brazil. Some make mention of colonial Brazil, the Brazilian Amazon, our fauna… The others are basically contemporary, but they all bring Brazil’s atmosphere, its colors, its motion, its strength,” said Marlucia Martire, CEO of ALM Brazil Trading, which is hosting the exhibit in partnership with the Central Park Towers and Gallery Arabesque.
The Brazilian-based ALM Brazil Trading’s Brazil Atmosphere project promotes jewelry, fashion, décor and art in other countries, especially in the Middle East. The Dubai exhibit is also backed by the Embassy of Brazil in Abu Dhabi, barbecue restaurant Fogo de Chão, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
Brazil’s ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Fernando Igreja, launched the art show alongside Arab Chamber Dubai office chief Rafael Solimeo, Apex-Brasil Middle East-North Africa Office CEO Karen Jones, and Council of Brazilian Citizens in the UAE president Acelina Mar.
