São Paulo – In 2016, Dubai attracted over AED 25.5 billion (USD 6.9 billion) in foreign direct investments (FDI), an amount that puts the city in the seventh position in the FDI global ranking, according to information from the local government. It’s within this context that the Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates will hold, from April 9 to 11, the congress Annual Investment Meeting (AIM), with the support of the vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
According to the event’s general director, Walid Farghal, AIM’s main goal is to serve as a platform to connect developed countries to the emerging ones. “The event provides the opportunity for emerging countries to showcase and highlight the top priority investment opportunities and to connect with high-level investors from all over the world,” said the executive in an interview with ANBA via email.
Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the AIM includes a conference featuring lectures and discussions, international fairgrounds, workshops and business meeting. This will be the 8th edition of AIM, and Farghal is expecting strong turnout from Brazilians. Dedicated panels will focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.
“This year we are organizing a dedicated session focusing on Latin America, which will act as a supporting tool to highlight the best Investment Opportunities the Latin America and the Caribbean,” he said, adding that Latin American countries will have their own space in the fairgrounds. “We are expecting strong participation and big delegations from Brazil,” he said.
Farghal said this is a chance to showcase projects in key industries to investors from all over the world and find new markets to export goods and services to. “The AIM provides a safe platform for participants to present their projects and schedule B2B and G2B meetings with institutional, private and corporate investors looking for lucrative, reliable projects for their capital,” he said.
AIM organizers said Paraná vice governor Cida Borghetti, Goiás foreign trade secretary William Leyser O’Dwyer and the CEO of Paraná’s state development agency (Agência Paraná de Desenvolvimento), Adalberto Netto, have confirmed their attendance. Mayors Francisco Lacerda Brasileiro of Foz do Iguaçu and Roberto Claudio Rodrigues Bezerra of Fortaleza have also expressed interest in attending.
The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce will be at the AIM, with onsite coverage from ANBA.
