São Paulo – The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) is expecting near 38,000 attendees from 175 countries. The event starts next Monday (16) in the capital of the United Arab Emirates and it was organized by Masdar, a subsidiary of state-owned holding company Mubadala, which operates in the renewable energies and sustainability sectors. According to the news outlet, this edition’s theme is “Pratical Steps Towards a Sustainable Future”. The main event of the week is the 10th edition of the World Future Energy Summit. The forum, according to WAM, will focus strongly on technology, innovation and funding.
The news agency reports that world investments in renewable energies reached near USD 300 billion last year, a record. Brazil, for instance, registered a historic increase of the installed capacity of electric power in 2016 and wind power was the second-fastest growing, trailing only hydroelectric. The source grew 20% in comparison to 2015 and now accounts for 27% of the country’s installed capacity, according to data released this Thursday (12) by the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
In the UAE, according to WAM, bidding rounds for projects of solar energy broke twice the price record for energy generation, standing below three cents of a dollar per kilowatt hour.
The ADSW is held since 2008 and is the main forum of the sector for investors and business owners from the Middle East, North African ad South Asia. The event will gather officials from important renewable energy markets such as Saudi Arabia, India, Jordan, Morocco and the UAE. These countries, according to WAM, have projects of renewable energies that together add up to more than 200 gigawatts.
The organizers are expecting at least 880 companies from 40 countries, with more than 50% of this total of small and medium-sized businesses from leading nations in the sector of clean technologies, such as Germany, France, Japan, China, United States and United Kingdom.
In addition to the World Future Energy Summit, the ADSW also includes the 5th International Water Summit, covering the management of water resources in arid regions, and the 4th EcoWASTE exhibition and conference, covering waste management.
