São Paulo – Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) produced 1 million tonnes of alumina at its Al Taweelah refinery in Abu Dhabi, UAE since operations began in April 2019, Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The company expects production to reach 2 million tonnes a year “once full ramp-up is achieved,” according to WAM. Alumina refineries convert bauxite ore into alumina. EGA invested some USD 3.3 billion in building Al Taweelah.
EGA managing director and CEO Abdulla Kalban said the company is “pleased with the progress so far at Al Taweelah alumina refinery” and that “plans are being effectively put into action by our operations team of global industry veterans and UAE nationals.” EGA is helping make the UAE a major player in the alumina industry.
