Rio de Janeiro – Unemployment climbed to 13.1% during Q1 in Brazil, from 11.8% in Q4 2017, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said. Q1 2017 had seen 13.7% unemployment.
The numbers are from the Continuous National Household Sampling Survey (Pnad Contínua) made public this Friday (27) by the IBGE in Rio de Janeiro. As of the end of the survey, there were 13.7 million people out of work in the country, up 11.2% from 12.3 million people in the preceding quarter. Year-on-year in Q1, unemployment dropped 3.4%, from 14.2 million.
