São Paulo – The Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) is hosting its first-ever Afro-Asian Journey, by initiative of its graduate and postgraduate History students. The online event will take place free of charge from December 8 to 11, featuring discussions regarding the 10th anniversary of the Arab Spring.
The wave of revolutionary demonstrations began in Tunisia and Egypt in December 2010 and spread to several Middle East and North Africa countries, sparking civil wars in Libya and Syria, protests in Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Iraq, Jordan, Oman, and Yemen, and smaller-scale demonstrations in Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.
Researchers into the history of Asia or Africa and their diasporas looking to present their work during the Journey can submit abstracts of their work here – the deadline for submission is November 23. The event will include workshops, conferences, cultural activities, presentations by graduate and postgraduate History students, and related fields. All activities will be online and free of charge.
A jornada contará com oficinas, conferências, atividades culturais, apresentação de comunicação de estudantes de graduação e pós-graduação da História e áreas afins. Todas as atividades serão online e gratuitas.
The Afro-Asian Journey relies on support from the Department of History and the Academic Center for History (CAHIS) of Unifesp’s Faculty of Philosophy, Language and Human Sciences (EFLCH), in Guarulhos, São Paulo. Supporters also include the Laboratory on Oriental and Asiatic Studies (Leoa), coordinated by PhD Samira Adel Osman, and from the Center for Studies on Contemporary African (Nehac), coordinated by PhD Patrícia Teixeira Santos.
