Atlanta – The United States should welcome from 5,000 to 8,000 Syrian refugees next year, reported the spokesperson of the Department of State John Kirby. He said that this year the country is already expecting from 1,000 to 2,000 refugees, who will be welcomed after an analysis of approximately 15,000 registrations referenced by the United Nations (UN).
Because of the war faced by Syria, 4 million people abandoned the territory. John Kirby reported that the files of the 15,000 Syrians that left the country are registered by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Last year, the UNHCR had 9,000 files registered. The majority of the refugees live in extreme misery, in border areas, with continuous cases of migration attempts to Europe through the sea.
The possibility of migration by the Syrians to the United States has been debated by the Department of State and the topic is part of an agenda of the North American and Turkish governments, which is the country that hosts a part of the Syrian refugees because of their shared terrestrial border.
According to the Turkish government, there are more than 1 million Syrians in the country. The flow started three years ago due to the conflicts between president Bashar Al Assad’s government and the insurgents, besides the actions of the extremist group Islamic State.
