São Paulo – Exports of vehicles have increased 16.7% (47,196 units) last month in comparison with September (40,448 units), but decreased 31.2% when compared with October 2008 (68,641 units), according to data from the National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea). There was a 42% reduction in the year-to-date result. So far this year, foreign sales have totalled 371,418 units, as against 640,475 in the same period of last year.
In terms of value, exports have risen by 8.4%, to reach US$ 795.6 million, as against US$ 734.1 million in September. In comparison with October last year, when exports totalled US$ 1.32 billion, there was a reduction of 39.7%. The year-to-date result has decreased by 47.2%, with US$ 6.38 billion in exports, whereas the figure was US$ 12 billion in the same period last year.
According to the chairman of Anfavea, Jackson Schneider, the reduction tends to become more pronounced until the end of the year, with less than 300,000 vehicles exported. “Exports have decreased because the economies of the markets that buy from Brazil have plummeted due to the world economic crisis, and have not yet shown signs of recovery as did Brazil, which was the last to enter the crisis and the first to exit.”
