São Paulo – This July, the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center, in Beirut, hosts three workshops of Brazilian cuisine to those interested in preparing the country’s recipes. The first one takes place this Wednesday (11), with chef Michel Hattouni, and will focus on escondidinho de carne seca (jerked beef mashed cassava casserole). The other workshops are scheduled for the next Wednesdays, July 18 and 25.
Registrations are open until the openings are filled and must be made one day before the event. Each workshop costs USD 15 and after the dishes are prepared, they are served in a lunch that also includes beverages.
Chef Michel Hattouni, who will teach the first workshop, has a Brazilian food delivery service in Beirut, with a menu that ranges from snacks and main courses to desserts, including cheese bread, brigadeiro (fudge balls coated with chocolate sprinkles), passion fruit mousse, feijoada (Brazilian national dish with beans and porks) and baião de dois (dish combining rice and beans).
All the workshops’ teachers are Brazilians living in Lebanon, according to information given to ANBA by the head of the cultural and educational sector of Brazil’s embassy in Lebanon, Thiago Oliveira. The embassy is co-organizing the workshops with the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center, its cultural arm.
On July 18 the workshop will be with chef Gilda Silva. She will prepare chicken with catupiry cheese. Gilda, who lives in Beirut, is an expert in the cuisine of state of Minas Gerais and has a food delivery service of snacks and other Brazilian dishes.
On July 25, chef Sawsan Chaheen will teach in her workshop the recipe of heart of palm and tuna couscous. Sawsan lives in the Bekaa Valley, where there’s a large Brazilian community, and she also has a food delivery services of snacks and meals.
According to Oliveira, by organizing the workshops, the cultural center aims to promote the Brazilian cuisine in Lebanon. He expects a diverse group for the workshops, from Brazilian that don’t have as much contact with gastronomy and wish to learn the recipes to Lebanese that are curious about recipes from Brazil.
The chefs speak Arabic, Portuguese and English.
