São Paulo – The Brazil Africa Institute will hold, on November 22 and 23, in Salvador, the sixth edition of the Brazil Africa Forum. The event’s central theme is “Youth Empowerment – transformation to achieve sustainable development.” Registrations are open. In the picture above, last year’s edition, in São Paulo.
“We understand that youth empowerment is on the global agenda as a key pathway for poverty reduction and sustainable economic growth. This edition of the Brazil Africa Forum aims to create an environment of high-level discussion involving key leaders to share ideas, experiences and opportunities for young people in Brazil and Africa,” said João Bosco Monte, president of the Brazil Africa Institute.
Among the topics to be covered are “A New Wave for Brazil-Africa Trade and Investments Flows”, “Creative Industry”, “The Role of Youth in Promoting Democracy and Peace”, “Local Development”, “South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Health and Development.”
Listed as speakers are Saad Ali Shire, minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland; Waleed Wohaib, Director General of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development; Celso Amorim, Brazil’s former minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense; and José Ramos Horta, former president of East Timor and Nobel Peace Prize Winner.
Other speakers are Simeon K. Ehui, Director of the World Bank Group; Maria do Carmo Silveira, Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP); and Oley Dibba-Wadda, Director of Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB). The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is a partner of the event. Monte said that “the support by the Arab Chamber is crucial to make closer trade, cultural and social ties between the countries become a reality and serves as basis for other initiatives.”
The 6th Brazil Africa Forum is organized by the Brazil Africa Institute, sponsored by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Standard Bank and supported by Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), Unitaid, Center for Excellence against Hunger of the World Programme (WFP), CAMPO company, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and Aldairton Carvalho Law Firm.
