Brazilian beans for Arab coffee
This Thursday (12) in your ANBA Bulletin: Anorka Food Industries, a part of the UAE-based Hamwi conglomerate, is searching for new coffee supplying farms in Brazil. The company’s imported volume of Brazilian coffee beans is 70%, and it is becoming a member of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. And Brazilian coffee exports to the Arab bloc were up 8.1% year-to-date through October. Brazilian footwear and poultry exports were up, too. Syria’s state-run power utility has two tenders out. And Mobilisa, a tech solutions and digital communication company out of São Paulo, Brazil, offers services to Brazilian enterprises looking to advertise their product in the Arab countries, and to Arab businesses interested in doing the same in Brazil.

 | Coffee exports from Brazil to the Arab countries climbed 8.1% year-to-date through October from a year ago, Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé) reported on Wednesday (11). Coffee exports to the Arab world reached 1.61 million bags year-to-date through October, from 1.49 million bags in 2019.

 | Despite having slumped in October, beef exports from Brazil picked up in the first ten months of this year, the Brazilian Meat Packers Association (Abrafrigo) reported this Monday (9) quoting Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) figures. Anorka Food Industries, which is part of the Hamwi conglomerate, in the United Arab Emirates, wants to deal with new coffee farms from Brazil, the company’s chairman Bilal Al Hamwi told ANBA. Anorka already imports coffee from Brazil to process in its factories and is becoming a member of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).

 | Brazilian footwear exports saw a slight month-on month growth in October, following a trend of gradual rebound from the economic impact of the pandemic. According to the Brazilian Footwear Industry Association (Abicalçados), October saw 10.43 million pairs of shoes shipped from Brazil, up. 28.6% month on month; revenue came out to USD 55.4 million, up 4.8%.

 | The United Arab Emirates has announced changes to laws in a bid to appeal to foreign residents, tourists and investors. Last Saturday (7), president Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan approved decrees improving women’s protection by abolishing lenient sentences on so-called honor crimes, loosening restrictions on alcohol consumption, easing the rule of Islamic law on non-nationals regarding inheritance, divorce and cohabitation, and enabling greater individual freedom. All decrees have already been made effective.

 | The ambassador of Brazil to the UAE, Fernando Igreja, paid a visit to the Hamwi Co. manufacturing plant in Dubai on Sunday (8). The business conglomerate owns several coffee brands, and it offers items including coffee beans, instant coffee, roast and ground coffee, espresso, Turkish coffee, coffee-based cold drinks.
