São Paulo – Despite having slumped in October, beef exports from Brazil picked up in the first ten months of this year, the Brazilian Meat Packers Association (Abrafrigo) reported this Monday (9) quoting Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) figures. Countries including Saudi Arabia, China and the United States stepped up their imports.
Beef exports from Brazil climbed 9% to 1.6 million tons and 16% to USD 6.8 billion year-to-date through October. Year-on-year in October, exports slid by 4% to 189,500 tons and by 8% to USD 790 million.
Sales to China climbed 106% to 948,100 year-to-date through October, fetching USD 4 billion. The country accounted for more than half of beef exports from Brazil. The second biggest importer was Egypt, at 113,304, down 27.4% year-on-year.
Chile was the third biggest destination for beef from Brazil, at 71,500 tons, down 25,6% year-on-year. Russia ranked fourth at 51,200 tons, down 16%, and the United States placed fifth at 48,700 tons, up 52.3%. Sales to Saudi Arabia were up 0.3% to 35,400 tons, and sales to the UAE came out to 33,800 tons, down 49%.
