Teresina – A market that may have a business volume of more than US$ 890,000 per year. This is one of the estimates made by the Cooperative of Producers of Cashew Wine from Piauí (Cajuespi), state in the northeastern region of Brazil, to be inaugurated tonight (14), in the capital city Teresina.
Piauí has production capacity of 170 million litres of cajuína, as is called the cashew wine, per harvest, according to the superintendent director at the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) in Piauí, José Trabulo Junior. The current production, however, is only of 500,000 litres per year.
"The Cajuespi will ensure, in the medium term, an increase in production, will make joint purchases possible and will promote cajuína inside and outside Brazil," he said. The Cajuespi counts on almost 60 producers in five cities in the state of Piauí: Teresina, Altos, Valença, Palmeirais and Piracuruca, as well as Timon, in Maranhão.
