São Paulo – The consumption of thermoplastic resins grew 7% in Brazil in 2007 as against the previous year. The volume was 4.4 million tonnes. The figures are related to apparent consumption, the sum between production and imports, excluding exports.
From January to December, Brazilian production of thermoplastic resins grew 3.3%, exceeding the 4.8 million tonne mark. Imports, which reached 691,700 tonnes, rose 23.9%. The figures were supplied by the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (Abiquim).
Exports totalled 1.1 million tonnes and were practically at the same level as in 2006. The figures refer to the performance of the thermoplastic resin sector in 2007, and are still preliminary, as they do not include PET resin (polyethylene terephthalate).
