São Paulo – Ports in Qatar saw an increase in vessels and cargo volume throughput in July from June, as per news published on the newspaper The Peninsula’s website, based on statistics released by the Arab country’s port management company Mwani Qatar.
A total of 377 vessels called at three main ports in the country – Hamad, Doha and Ruwais – in July, from 318 vessels in June. This was an 18% increase. The ports handled 121,400 twenty-foot containers last month, from 105,700 containers in June. This was a 15% increase. They handled 90,752 tonnes of cargo last month, compared to 46,800 tonnes in June, almost the double.
Some products saw a significant higher throughput. The ports in Qatar handled 7,082 vehicles, 58,269 livestock heads and 29,641 tonnes of building materials in July. In June, they had handled 4,984 vehicles, 11,230 livestock heads and 26,044 tonnes of building materials. As per reported by The Peninsula, the cargo throughput in all categories saw a strong growth in a monthly basis.
Hamad Port saw a dominance in handling cargo and vessels throughput in Qatar in July. It received 141 vessels, 37% of all three ports mentioned. Hamad also handled 119,800 twenty-feet containers, almost all of those moved in the country. It handled 86,221 tonnes of break bulk cargo, 95% of the total. In vehicles, it handled 7,016 vehicles, almost all from July.
Ports in Qatar also saw an increase in throughput over H1. They handled 218,300 tonnes of building materials in H1, compared to 177,000 tonnes a year ago, up 24%. Over H1 2019, 1,828 ships called at Hamad, Doha and Ruwais ports, and they received around 661,300 containers in H1, as well as 100,000 cruise passengers.
