São Paulo – Bombril, the leading Brazilian manufacturer of steel wool, wants to increase its sales to the Middle East and North Africa. The company, which already sells to Libya and Lebanon, informs that exports to the Arab countries are increasing.
"The Middle East is attracting attention because of the volume of their imports of our products, and we are able to meet their demand," says Regina Cohen, Bombril’s export manager.
Regina explains that the rate of the company’s exports is low, but the growth forecast is good: in 2011, Bombril is expecting to export 20% more than this year. According to the manager, the company has a strong capacity to increase its exports, and for such it is carrying out long-term work.
Bombril exports to 20 countries and the Mercosur member nations are its leading importers. In Bolivia and in Paraguay, for instance, and also in Angola, Africa, Bombril is the top-selling brand.
In addition to the steel wool, fabric softener Mon Bijou, detergent Limpol and the Pinho Bril line of disinfectants are the main export products. Europe, the United States and Asia are also among the buyers of Bombril’s products.
Sales are made directly by the company’s export team in Brazil. Regina believes that the Bombril brand may enjoy the same success in the Arab countries as it does in Brazil. "We focus strongly on our portfolio mix. We are in many segments of the cleaning industry, and we offer them to our importers," says the manager.
"We look for countries with a demand for products with the same profiles as ours, so that we may enter this new market," says Regina, explaining that the products shipped to the company’s import markets are the same as those sold in Brazil. The executive also claims that the items sold to Lebanon and Libya bear Arabic labels.
According to Regina, Bombril has no prospect of going to fairs in the Arab countries, but is resorting to other strategies in order to increase its market share there. "We do prospecting trips, government missions and direct negotiation," she claims.
