São Paulo – Airbus released this Tuesday (30) estimates on the growth of air travel in Latin America. The company believes the number of flights in the region will double in the next 20 years. The forecast was based on the growth outlook of the Latin American middle class, from the current 350 million people to 520 million people in 2037, and on the increase in supply of more accessible air travel by airlines.
According to the Airbus statement, passenger traffic in Latin America doubled since 2002. The sector with the sharpest growth from then on was domestic flights, but last year intra-regional traffic showed stronger growth.
With the presumed growth, Airbus believes the region will have a demand for 2,720 new passenger and cargo aircrafts, worth USD 349 billion. From this estimated total, 2,420 are small aircrafts and 300 of medium-size, large and extra-large aircrafts. If these figures were to be confirmed, the Latin American fleet will double in size in two decades.
