São Paulo – The executives at Algerian distributor Societé Farlfk Biofood have already closed deals during the Apas 2012 – the 28th Supermarket Business Fair and Congress, promoted by the São Paulo State Supermarket Association, to take place on Thursday (10).
The order included four containers of Predilecta brand tomatoes, ketchup and mustard. "We are here with the purpose of finding the great Brazilian brands to distribute in the Algerian market because nowadays there is excessive competition with the great brands of Tunisia, Turkey and Europe. We therefore also want to enter the market with Brazilian brands,” explained Mohammad AlRezzoug, owner of the Arab company.
Currently, Biofood buys mainly from countries in Europe, like Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Isac Andrade, from trading company Brasfood, which brought the Algerians to the country, explains that they are starting to import from Brazil. They have already bought a container of products from Bauducco and approved the shipment of a second container for the brand.
"Today, Brazil, in the economic setting, has a very good reputation in Algeria. In the past, it was a developing country and is now larger (economically). That is what motivated us to come here, and enter this market,” explained AlRezzoug.
Fellouh Mohammad, the director at Biofood, says that they liked the Apas fair and plan to return to other editions of the event. "It is a great fair, with many interesting producers,” he said.
According to Andrade, imports of Brazilian products by the Algerian distributor totalled around US$ 100,000, from Europe, however, the company buys between US$ 700,000 and US$ 1 million a month.
The agenda of the Algerians for this Thursday, apart from Apas, also included a visit to company JBS-Friboi. On Friday (11), they are going to Minas Gerais, to visit the Bauducco factory. On Monday (14), the last day of the agenda, the Arabs are going to visit the Toffano sweet factory, in Marília, in the interior of São Paulo.
