São Paulo – Representatives of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce are negotiating cooperation agreements to foster trade between Brazil and Algeria. They had meetings with Algerian organisations in the Arab country while visiting several other countries in the region, also to include Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt. In these countries, the executives should also meet with businessmen and representatives in the trade sector.
On Sunday (12), Tamer Mansour, the Governmental Relations executive, and Júlia Paz, the International Business executive at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, met with Wahiba Behloul, International Relations director at the Algerian Federation of Chambers of Commerce, in capital city Algiers.
"We spoke about the possibility of collaboration between both chambers and about ways to improve bilateral relations between Brazil and Algeria,” explained Mansour. "The agreement includes technical collaboration and partnerships for the promotion of fairs, trade delegations and business roundtables,” he said.
Still on Sunday, Mansour and Paz met with executives of the Numidis group, which operates in distribution of food and has six supermarkets in Algeria. “We spoke about Brazilian products, how they are viewed in Algeria, we discussed import regulations and also visited one of their supermarkets,” recalled Mansour. Numidis belongs to the Cevital holding, which also operates in the automotive and building material sectors.
On Monday (13), the Arab Brazilian Chamber executives participated in meetings in three public organisations: at the National Trade Registry Centre, at the Algerian Centre for Quality and Packaging Control and at Algex, the local export promotion agency.
At the registry centre, they negotiated an agreement for the Arab Brazilian Chamber to be able to have access to the Algerian company data bank. At the Quality and Packaging Centre, in turn, an agreement was discussed for the organisation to send to the Chamber a list of demands and requirements for products to be exported to Algeria, especially in the areas of cosmetics and hygiene.
"At Algex, we spoke about the products Algeria is interested in exporting, like dates, olive oil and olives. They also showed interest in establishing a partnership with the Chamber for organisation of an exhibition of handicraft and other Algerian products in Brazil,” said Mansour. All agreements negotiated by the executives will later be evaluated by the boards of organisations involved and should be signed during the Djazagro fair, in the food sector, to take place in Algiers from April 23rd to 26th.
On Tuesday (14), Mansour and Paz should meet with the director of the Sanitary Division of the Ministry of Agriculture of Algeria and with representatives of the Food Importers Association in the country. On Wednesday, they head to Tunisia. The trip and the meetings of Arab Brazilian Chamber executives in Algeria counted on the support of the Brazilian embassy in Algiers.
