São Paulo – The Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) has released Guia de Investimento para o Brasil 2014 (2014 Guide to Investing in Brazil), containing relevant information to foreigners looking to invest in the country. The document is available in English and lists the sectors with the most capital attraction potential, in addition to addressing more complex issues pertaining to doing business in Brazil.
“The guide outlines the sectors with the most business opportunities, and touches on sensitive issues such as the buying of land by foreigners, and environmental licensing,” says Apex executive manager for investment Maria Luísa Cravo.
The document includes information regarding opportunities in Brazilian agribusiness, technology, such as semiconductors, and health and pharma, sectors into which the country is looking to attract funds, Cravo explains.
“It also presents a positive outlook for business in oil and gas, including the list of equipment Petrobras will require in coming years in order to drill for oil in the pre-salt area,” the manager says. The guide also features opportunities in ports and airports, via the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL, in the Portuguese acronym), which is connected with the federal government.
Cravo says the document was designed in order to bring together information from different organizations entrusted with attracting investment into the country. The guide was devised in partnership with the ministries of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, External Relations, and Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, with backing from the National Investment Information Network (Renai).
The guide took approximately a year to be developed, and the document will be renewed on an annual basis. The 2015 edition will start being drafted in the second half this year. In 2014, the guide should also be released in Spanish.
The material started being promoted last week during the Brazil-European Union Business Meeting, held in Brussels, Belgium. The event was attended by businessmen from different industries, who received both the printed guide and the electronic version. “We are already receiving requests from European companies wishing to learn more [about investing in Brazil],” says Cravo.
On April 15th, the material will be released in the United States, during an event on investment in Brazil where aspects will be addressed such as innovation, research and development; According to Cravo, the guide will also be promoted at events held by the Apex investment unit, and online presentations are also a part of the plans.
