São Paulo – Brazil has regulated the use of drones in the agribusiness. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) published on Friday (24) in the Federal Gazette an ordinance establishing rules for operating remotely piloted aircrafts (RPAs), or drones, in the application of pesticides and the like, adjuvants, fertilizers, inoculants, improvers and seeds.
MAPA reported that the goal is streamlining procedures and adapting legal requirements to the specificities of the technology, as it differs in several aspects from manned aircrafts. For example, the regulation provides that those working with drones make an automated registration with MPA and have a professional trained with a specific course referred to as an aerial applicator. In some cases, a technical manager such as a forest or agronomic engineer is required to coordinate activities.
