Rio de Janeiro – The unemployment rate in Brazil was 11.7% in August-October, down 0.6 percentage point from 12.3% in May-July – meaning joblessness is still on its way down. Nevertheless, 12.4 million were unemployed in the country in Aug-Oct.
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released the numbers this Thursday (29) in its national household sampling survey (Pnad Contínua). Unemployment was down 0.5 percentage point in Aug-Oct from 12.2% a year ago.
At the end of October, 92.9 million workers had jobs in the country, up 1.4% (or over 1.2 million workers) from May-July 2017 and 1.5% (1.4 million workers) from Aug-Oct 2017.
