São Paulo – Company Café Fazenda Caeté has closed its first sale to an Arab country, and the goods will be shipped in March. The batch will comprise 300 crates of coffee for infusion. The product is called Café Individual (Single-Serve Coffee), and comes in five-gram sachets which are dipped into hot water, like tea.
The order was placed by the distributing company Asaat, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. “We had discussed the sale at the last Gulfood,” says commercial director Fernando Costa. “The product is a great replacement for soluble coffee, because it is practical. I believe it will suit the Arabs’ consumption tastes fine,” says Costa.
The executive says the product will likely enjoy good acceptance from the food services market, seeing as Dubai boasts a vast hotel network.
For the time being, Asaat will be the sole distributor in the Emirates to sell coffee from the Brazilian-based company, but Fazenda Caeté plans on discussing further details of its partnership with the Arab enterprise at the next edition of Gulfood, a food fair due this month in Dubai. “We are going to negotiate, because there are other parties interested. I believe that at the Gulfood we will be able to increase our shipped volume,” says Costa.
Apart from the Emirates, the company is eyeing other Arab countries. “We have a deal well underway in Kuwait,” says Costa. He is also looking to enter the Saudi market. “Theirs is a market with higher visibility,” he says.
The company has existed for three years and exports to the United States, Spain, England and Chile. “We are starting out and the outlook is great,” says Costa. He notes that in Brazil, his products are available from major chains such as Wallmart and Carrefour, and Petrobras is also a client. “We boast a portfolio of major clients, and that gives us credibility in foreign countries,” he says.
Costa says the company posts R$ 2.5 million (US$ 1 mn) in annual sales revenues. “We have seen 40% growth in 2013, and are projecting another 40% for this year,” he adds. The company is headquartered in the city of Campo Belo, in the state of Minas Gerais.
