Rio de Janeiro – Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 0.4% in 2018 Q1 in comparison to 2017’s Q4. The index was released this Wednesday (30) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
In comparison to the same period of last year, the Brazilian economy grew 1.2%. IBGE’s manager of regional accounts, Claudia Dionísio, said that the GDP’s growth in 2018 Q1 took the Brazilian economy to the same level of 2011’s Q1.
“If we were to compare, today we would be at the same level of 2011’s first half,” she explained. The researcher added that the economy was on the upswing until 2014 and later declined to 2010 numbers, but it has been on the rise since the beginning of 2017.
In current value, the GDP reached BRL 1.641 trillion (USD 460 billion) in 2018’s Q1.
The growth in comparison to the end of last year was the fifth consecutive positive result. The sector that grew the most was the agriculture, with 1.4%. Industry and services remained closely to stability, with a positive variation of 0.1%.
