São Paulo – Specializing in publishing books that showcase Arab world literature, Tabla publisher releases two novels by authors from Arab countries in February and March. One of them, Wondrous Journeys in Strange Lands, aimed at young adults, offers a journey full of lessons.
Released in February, the book now arrives in Brazil in Portuguese. It portrays Qamar, the protagonist born in Palestine, in a village full of peculiarities. The story follows Qamar’s search for answers amid the mysteries surrounding her life and her desire to explore the world. To find these answers, she will embark on adventures and face challenges far beyond what she ever imagined.
The novel won the 2014 Etisalat Award for Arabic Children’s Literature in the young adult category. It is written by Sonia Nimer, a renowned Palestinian author in the Arab world. She is also a professor of philosophy and cultural studies at Birzeit University in West Bank.
Another book being launched by Tabla is Two Women in One by Egyptian author Nawal El-Saadawi. Written in 1983 and now available for pre-order, it reflects some of the author’s own life experiences. The novel portrays the protagonist’s desire for freedom in an attempt to be herself, rather than the woman others expect her to be.
