São Paulo – For the last five years, Bremil has been exporting ingredients to beef industries in the Arab countries. The company has clients in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Algeria, Sudan, Morocco, Egypt and Syria, with the two latter being the main clients.
“In each of the countries we have exclusive distributors, as our products require much technical assistance," said Paulo Bergamachi, export manager, explaining the need for training for the use of condiments used in the production of hamburgers, sausages, baloney and nuggets, made out of beef or chicken.
According to Bergamachi, the main products exported to the Arabs are soy protein, condiments, liquid smoke and preservatives. "The market is enormous, our product is very well accepted there, but it is one of the most competitive markets there are," pointed out the executive, adding that the appreciated real against the dollar makes exports to the region more difficult.
He also explains that the products developed for the Arabs include the favourite seasonings of the residents of the region, like garlic and cardamom, for example. “In general, we start from a sample sent by the client and we develop a similar taste," he explained.
To export to the Arabs, Bremil obtained halal certification from two Muslim associations in Brazil. In total, the company exports to 44 countries and its main importer is Colombia. Of the 15% of production that is sold on the foreign market, 10% goes to the Arabs.
Headquartered in the city of Arroio do Meio, 130 kilometres away from Porto Alegre, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Bremil has been in operation for 23 years and employs around 500 people. The group is now building a new factory, in the state of Goiás, scheduled to start operating next year.
Company revenues are around 240 million Brazilian reals (US$ 136 million). According to Bergamachi, in 2010, Bremil exports should generate around US$ 9 million.
