São Paulo – Conexões Musicais, a music education program by the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra Foundation, and the city of Salvador, Brazil, were winners in their respective categories at the MCA – Music Cities Awards 2024. The awards ceremony, where the winners were announced, took place on Sunday (8) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They were the two Brazilian projects that made it to the finals.
Conexões Musicais was chosen in the category of Best Initiative to Support the Development of Music Education and Careers, while the city of Salvador won in the Global Music City category. The Music Cities Awards is an international competition created to recognize projects that use music to enhance the economic, social, environmental, and cultural development of cities.
Conexões Musicais is project through which the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra fosters music education in the municipalities where it performs, having already engaged more than nine thousand students in 38 cities. The category won by Salvador recognizes cities that use music for development. The city in Bahia state is considered a Creative City of Music by UNESCO.
